Street food is no longer just food on the go
Street food used to mean something quick from a kiosk, eaten standing up. Today, burgers, tacos and woks get the same attention in the kitchen as the more “serious” plates. They’ve kept what made them great, simplicity and flavour you remember straight away, and gained better ingredients and more care in the making.
This kind of food fits perfectly in a pub. You eat it with your hands, share it around the table and have it with a beer. That’s why street food is part of our menu, not a passing trend.
What makes good street food?
- Good ingredients. When a dish is simple, there’s nothing to hide behind.
- Flavour with character. A spice, a sauce or a topping that makes the dish more than just another one on the list.
- Simplicity. Food that’s easy to eat, without cutlery for five courses.
- Something to share. Street food is at its best when you order for the whole table.
A pub by name, a gastro pub at heart
Ožujsko Pub Maksi proudly calls itself a pub, but our menu complicates that story a little. We combine the relaxed feel of a pub with a serious approach to food, so on the menu you’ll find everything from street food, burgers, tacos and woks to soups and our signature favourites.
The menu is put together by our culinary team led by chef Tomislav Kralj, who likes to take familiar ingredients and flavours a step further than you’d expect. The kitchen follows the seasons and the menu changes regularly, so there’s always something new to try. You’ll find the current offer on our Menu page.
What about a weekday lunch?
If street food tempts you on your lunch break, from Tuesday to Friday from 11 am we also cook daily dishes under the name Try Me Today Only. Every week brings a new menu, and now and then it includes a street food classic done our way. This week’s offer is on the Try Me Today Only page.
With a beer, in good company
Street food is food for hanging out, and here you don’t have to eat in a hurry. It goes with a selection of beers from the Zagreb Brewery range, wines and cocktails, and when it’s warm, the spacious terrace. Come for a single dish and a drink, or stay the whole evening with a match or some good music.
Where to find us
Maksi is in Borongaj, at Ulica Divka Budaka 18, right next to Maksimir Stadium. We’re open Tuesday to Sunday and closed on Mondays. Parking is public, in zone three, and costs €2.30 for the whole day. If you’re coming with a larger group, get in touch through our contact form.
