Where to eat a good burger in Zagreb?

Zagreb has no shortage of burgers these days. Almost every neighbourhood has a place that serves one, so the real question is where to find the one that makes you come back. Our answer is, of course, a little biased: Ožujsko Pub Maksi in Borongaj, just a short walk from Maksimir Stadium.

Our burgers are part of the à la carte menu, alongside tacos, woks, soups and our signature dishes. They’re not an afterthought for people who can’t decide what to order, but they’re not the only reason to come either.

What makes a good burger?

There’s no big secret. A good burger comes down to a few things that all have to be right at the same time:

  • Meat that’s juicy, well seasoned and cooked properly.
  • A bun that holds everything together and doesn’t fall apart after the second bite.
  • Sauce that goes with the meat instead of drowning it.
  • Fresh toppings, because tired lettuce and a pale tomato can ruin even the best patty.

It sounds simple, and that’s exactly why you notice straight away when one of these is off.

A pub by name, a gastro pub at heart

Maksi proudly calls itself a pub, but we take our kitchen seriously. The menu is put together by our culinary team led by chef Tomislav Kralj, who likes to take familiar ingredients and flavours a step further than you’d expect.

The menu follows the seasons and changes regularly, so the burger line-up isn’t set in stone either. Check our menu to see what’s on right now.

Burgers are better with company

A burger is rarely eaten in a hurry and in silence. It gets ordered with a beer, eaten during the match and shared over a conversation that runs a little long. That’s why it’s always been part of hanging out at Maksi: after work, on weekends with friends or when your team is playing.

To go with it, there’s a selection of beers from the Zagreb Brewery range, plus wines and cocktails. When the weather is warm, the spacious terrace is waiting. Parking is public, in zone three, at €2.30 for the whole day.

Lunch on a weekday?

If you’re coming on your lunch break, from Tuesday to Friday from 11 am we cook daily dishes under the name Try Me Today Only. There’s a new menu every week. Sometimes it’s driven by the season, sometimes by a good idea from the kitchen. You’ll find this week’s offer on the Try Me Today Only page.
