First time at Maksi?<\/h2>\n

When you sit down and open the menu for the first time, the question is always the same: what should I get? The honest answer is whatever you’re craving right now. Still, if you’d like a little help, we’ve picked out the dishes guests order most often and that best show how we cook.<\/p>\n

O\u017eujsko Pub Maksi proudly calls itself a pub, but we take our kitchen seriously. The menu is put together by our culinary team led by chef Tomislav Kralj<\/strong>, who likes to take familiar ingredients and flavours a step further than you’d expect.<\/p>\n

To start: “Nije mazalica”<\/h2>\n

The name roughly translates as “it’s not a spread”, and it’s a fair warning. Toasted homemade bread, minced black pork, homemade kajmak with smoked feta, pickled red onion and hot pepper. If there are more of you, go for the Meza<\/strong> for four: cured meats from the Matijevi\u0107 family farm, smoked cow’s cheese, baked homemade \u0161trukli (Zagreb’s cheese-filled pastry), smoked bacon spread and homemade bread. For those who like a bit of heat, there are gyoza, Japanese dumplings filled with chicken and served with hoisin sauce.<\/p>\n

Burgers: the ZG-1892-M and friends<\/h2>\n

Our signature burger is the ZG-1892-M<\/strong>: 200 grams of pure minced young beef, bacon, coleslaw, roasted pepper, BBQ sauce and chilli mayo. If you’re extra hungry, there’s a double version too. Cheese lovers should try the \u010cizzi burger<\/strong> with cheddar and pickles.<\/p>\n

It’s not all about beef. The O\u0161 koko\u0161 burger<\/strong> brings a chicken thigh fillet in a buttermilk and seasoned flour coating, with mozzarella and chilli mayo. For vegetarians there’s a vege burger with a “garden gourmet” patty.<\/p>\n

Street food and tacos<\/h2>\n

If you feel like eating with your hands, start with the Katsu sengula<\/strong>: marinated pork tenderloin in a flatbread bun with coleslaw, tonkatsu sauce, fried onions and peanuts. There are also quesadillas, with pork tenderloin or vegetarian, and tacos in fours, either with buttermilk-battered chicken or with grilled black tiger prawns and chimichurri.<\/p>\n

Woks for something different<\/h2>\n

When you’re not in the mood for classic pub food, a wok is the way to go. Choose noodles or basmati rice, served with crunchy vegetables and seeds, and topped with chicken, prawns, beef steak or kept vegetarian.<\/p>\n
