Maksimir is more than a park and a stadium

Mention Maksimir to anyone in Zagreb and they’ll probably think of the park or the stadium first, and with good reason. Maksimir Park is one of the oldest and most beautiful public parks in the city, and the stadium has hosted big matches and even bigger emotions for decades.

Ožujsko Pub Maksi is in Borongaj, right next to Maksimir Stadium, and for more than ten years it has been part of everyday life in the neighbourhood. So we’ve put together a suggestion for how to spend a day in Maksimir, with a break for some good food.

Morning: coffee first

We open at 9 am, Tuesday to Sunday, so Maksi is a good first stop for your morning coffee. Espresso, cappuccino or something warm for colder days, and for something refreshing, freshly squeezed juices.

Late morning: a walk in the park and the zoo

Maksimir Park is the place for a long walk under the trees, past lakes, meadows and winding paths. If you have kids with you, Zagreb Zoo is inside the park, so the morning easily turns into a family day out. A walk works up an appetite, and we’re close by.

Lunch: what we’re cooking today

If you’re in Maksimir on a weekday, from Tuesday to Friday from 11 am we cook daily dishes under the name Try Me Today Only. There’s a different dish every day, and this week’s menu is on the Try Me Today Only page.

At weekends, and any other time, chef Tomislav Kralj‘s full à la carte menu is available. There’s the ZG-1892-M burger, Katsu sengula, woks, bowls, boneless pork ribs in a soy and honey glaze, and duck with mlinci, traditional baked pasta sheets. For kids and fussier eaters there are always burgers and fries. See the full offer on our Menu page.

Afternoon and evening: the match

If there’s a match on at the stadium, Maksi is right on your way. Drop by beforehand for a bite and a warm-up beer, or come back afterwards to talk through what happened on the pitch. If the game is somewhere else, watch it with us, since sports broadcasts have been part of Maksi from the very beginning.

To go with it, there’s draught beer, from Ožujsko and Tomislav to Grif IPA, and a three-litre beer tower for bigger groups. When it’s warm, the spacious terrace is the best place to sit.
